TRAINING REPORT
LETS ROLL - Lets Roll has been a great horse for us having won prize money in 37 of his 50 races to date. He has now gone through the £100,000 barrier (£103,658 to be precise) which is very good for a 1400gns yearling. He has been a great advert for everyone involved with him. He has been rather too high in the handicap this year, but has now come down to a rating which he could win off. He is now rated 85. He has been turned out for a complete break and will not return until well into the New Year. He ran a great race in his last race at DONCASTER - burdened with 10st he ran on very strongly to be a fast finishing fourth in a pretty good handicap showing that he stays 14 furlongs really well - and will almost certainly get a good bit further. In his firsy race this season at NOTTINGHAM over 14 furlongs. LETS ROLL found himself hemmed in by a number of horses in a very slowly run race. He was always struggling to get out and when he did he had a mountain to climb. He was not beaten too far and still showed his usual enthusiasm. LETS ROLL ran a dismal race next time at DONCASTER but was found to be carrying a lung infection. He is undergoing treatment for that at the moment
DANZATRICE - Danzatrice is running much better this season, she is running in a slighly higher grade and continues to show very consistant form. She is now the winner of five races and over £26,000 in prize money. She has proved this year that she stays two miles really well, and will continue to be campaigned at around that distance. This filly is game and genuine and we are very lucky to have her.
OUR KENNY - OUR KENNY ran a much improved race at WETHERBY, finishing third. He settled much better than in his previous races, and quickened really well over the last three hurdles to be a fast finishing third. This is the first time that he has shown that he is suited by two miles or further - which is what he is bred for. The fact that he settled and raced in a much more relaxed style in the early stages of the race certainly helped him to finish well in the second part of the race. If he continues to make progress he will win races for sure.
SPRINKLER - This filly is very small - but has a heart as big as a lion. She has won once and been placed second twice, only beaten a short head once. SPRINKLER finished third in her first hurdle race, jumping extremely well. We were lucky to find a weak maiden hurdle for SPRINKLER , and making all the running, jumping really well she gradually went clear to win by a very comfortable 6 lengths. Running over 2 miles and six furlongs at NEWCASTLE Sprinkler rather dissappointed us but she has since run really well in a one mile three furlong handicap hurdle at Towcester, staying on very well at the end and looking in need of a longer distance. She has come out of the race well and should be ready to run again soon.
FRESCHEZZA - This filly has a very strong National Hunt pedigree. In her two runs in National Hunt Flat races she showed that stamina is the name of the game with her and when stepped up to two and a half miles over hurdles she finished very strongly to win going away. This filly will surely win again, the further she goes the better and I have every confidence that she will stay three miles really well. This is a promising filly
SEA VENTURE - Sea Venture made a very promising start to his racing hurdling career at WETHERBY. Held up in rear SEA VENTURE jumped extremely well in the early stages of his first hurdle race and was gradually allowed to improve his position, which he did quite comfortably, he was about fifth jumping the second last - and ran on very strongly to be a fast finishing second beaten a neck. This was a most encouraging first run over hurdles. SEA VENTURE has since been placed third once in a pretty hot race at DONCASTER - but was very unlucky when falling when in a challenging position at Wetherby. His schooling since shows no indicatiuon of him having lost his confidence and I am hopeful that he will make amends in his next race. SEA VENTURE ran really well this week at MARKET RASEN to finish second behind what looked a very well handicappede horse. He should not be too long before he wins a race.
DANCE SAUVAGE - This is a new horse to the yard who is now a four year old. He ran three times as a two year old for Barry Hills and did not show any form, he never ran as a three year old. He is quite reasonably rated on 50. He had his first race over ten furlongs at Nottingham, and held up in the early stages he was staying on quite well at the end and should show inproved form when stepped up in distance. His next race will probably be over twelve furlongs. Running over 12 furlongs at NEWCASTLE DANCE SAUVAGE showed much improved form. He was held up in rear in a very fast run race, made very good headway in the straight and was a very strong finishing second beaten a neck. This is the first form he has shown and looks certain to win a race on that running. He will stay further and is developing into a decent prospect. DANCE SAUVAGE ran with promise at Musselburgh over 12 furlongs, coming from a long way behind to be a staying on second. He is improving all the time and looks sure to at least win a small race - and could develop into a decent staying prospect in time.
RODEO - remains very high in the handicap, he has run two lack lustre races to date this year, but I intend stepping him up in trip next in the hope that he shows better form. He really requires a 20lb drop in the handicap.
VESUVIO - VESUVIO won first time out for us last season, over five furlongs, which was a bit of a suprise as I thought he would need quite a lot further. I consequently stepped him up in distance and he did not manage to win again. I am going to start him over distances of around six furlongs this year and hope he can recapture his early season form of last year.
SMARTIES PARTY - This filly is a really good looking daughter of TAMURE. She is a half sister to a useful chaser in POPPY MAROON. This filly was a very strong finishing fifth at HEXHAM last week and looks sure to win a National Hunt Flat race before embarquing on a hurdling career. Racing well within herself in mid-field at WETHERBY this filly made good headway in the straight to hit the front inside the final furlong, but was just run out of it close home. This is a game genuine filly, who stays well and will certainly do well over hurdles. SMARTIES PARTY is now schooling over hurdles on a regular basis and is schooling really well. In her first race over hurdles at KELSO this filly jumped well and kept on in genuine style to be third, which was a very satisfactory start to her career over hurdles. The going was probably softer than she really wants, and she lookes as though a step up in distance would suit her which is really what she is bred for.
FLORENTINO. This filly is a full sister to a very useful filly I trained a few seasons ago called FLOSSY, who won 9 races for us and was placed 18 times winning around £120,000 in prize money and is half sister to another very good filly I trained called SOCIETY GIRL who won six races and was placed ten times for us. This is a lovely looking filly who has taken a bit of time and patience to get her to show her best form. She was at one time a very excitable filly, rather headstrong and very highly strung. We have spent a lot of time getting her relaxed, and it is now paying dividends. She has run three times over hurdles, she is an excellent jumper and really enjoys it - which is important. She has now had three races over hurdles, improving quite significantly with each race. Her third run resulted in a very easy 6 length win, admittedly in a moderate race, but she jumped with great zest and ran right away from the second. This filly could well win more races. In an effort to win a flat race with FLORENTINO I ran her in a maiden handicap at CARLISLE, she ran exceptionally well finishing third - a great improvement on her flat form to date. She is a very genuine filly who stays really well and looks very genuine. I am pretty sure that she will continue to improve and win races on the flat.
FLYING SPRAY. This 4 year old was bought as a foal at DONCASTER SALES. He is out of a full sister to a very good horse I trained called PANTOMIME PRINCE. HE is in good work and shows plenty of ability. He will soon be ready to run in a National HUnt Flat Race - when we will find just how good he is.
